This is a question I am asked over and over, and the answer is “it all depends on what you would like and what you expect from your holiday”. It also depends on the size of your party. If there are only two of you, you may prefer an hotel where, in the evening, you have a bit of social life. If you are a party of family or friends, a villa might be best for you. It also depends on your budget and what you are comfortable spending. The BVI is very affordable and like everywhere, prices vary.

The islands in the BVI are all very different and offer varying types of accommodation from small inexpensive hotels to 5 star deluxe resort hotels and apartments to luxury villas. You can even rent an island! The beauty of it is…..nothing is very big. The British Virgin Islands do not have massive hotels with several hundred rooms, and that is part of the islands’ charm and exclusivity.

Let me give you some examples.

Sebastian’s on the Beach on Tortola sits on the beautiful white sand beach at Little Apple Bay. Their Beachfront rooms are right on the beach where you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves lapping the sand. Sebastian’s Beachfront rooms start at a very reasonable £235.00 per night although they do have less expensive rooms which are not right on the beach but only steps away from the sand.

Villas in the BVI are a popular choice and there are many throughout the islands. Sunset House on Tortola has 5 bedrooms and sits in an enviable position overlooking Long Bay beach. The villa comes with a chef, housekeeper and waiting staff and just to give you an idea, cost based on 8 guests sharing 4 bedrooms would work out to £985.00 per person for 7 nights and includes breakfast. This is very reasonably priced.

Another villa option on the island of Virgin Gorda is Beachcomber at Mahoe Bay. This is a stunning 5 bedroom villa right on the beach. Blue Rush Watersports based at Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda will be delighted to deliver kayaks and paddleboards right to your door and an excellent chef can be arranged if you wish.

If you would like to rent an island for you and your friends Guana Island is absolutely idyllic with amazing views from the cottages, stunning white sand beaches, first class service and excellent food. Guana Island is also all inclusive so everything is taken care of for you. Of course, you can also just rent a room on Guana for a few nights for just you two. Four nights will cost £4380.00 for two people and is all inclusive including return transfers from Beef Island airport

Another great choice for renting an island in the BVI is Necker Island which belongs to Sir Richard Branson. This is also all inclusive and is home to ancient giant tortoises, cheeky lemurs, flamingos and a variety of endangered species. At certain times of the year, Necker offers the opportunity to rent just a room.

The cost to rent room on Necker Island for 4 nights starts at £10,380 per person. This is all inclusive and a fabulous experience.

There are many, many different types of accommodation on offer throughout the BVI. It’s easy to island hop too as the islands are close together and easy to access. You can spend 3 nights on Tortola, 3 on Virgin Gorda and 3 on Anegada, where you can go horseback riding and kite surfing.

The British Virgin Islands has so much to offer and is a very diverse destination. It’s also the sailing capital of the world, but more about that another time!
