Here you can safely swim, snorkel, rent a kayak or paddleboard, or just relax with a good book. Road Town, the capital of the BVI is a short drive away and Brewer’s Bay which offers great surfing between December and March, is just a few minutes drive.
You can book a day out on the water with Captain Patrick at Celtic Power Boats or with Scott at Aristocat charters. Both are experienced skippers and will give you a fabulous day out.
A visit to the Callwood Rum Distillery on Cane Garden Bay is a must and only a few minutes walk from Cane Garden Bay Beach Hotel. The history is interesting and the rum samples delicious!
You can take a ferry from Road Town to either Virgin Gorda or Anegada for the day and visit the Botanical Gardens also in Road Town. There are lots of interesting activities to do in and around Tortola.
There are plenty of choices of places to eat on Cane Garden Bay, the closest to The Cane Garden Bay Beach Hotel being Rhythm and Sands restaurant and bar where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. On selected evenings, entertainment is provided by great local bands. Rhythm and Sands beach bar is a great place to hang out for toes in the sand fun. Other dining options on Cane Garden Bay are Myett’s, Banana’s Bar and Grill, Paradise Club or you can drive or take a taxi to nearby Road Town or Carrot Bay and find excellent cuisine at a great choice of restaurants.
The most direct way is from Gatwick to Antigua with British Airways and onwards to Tortola with inter-Caribbean Airways, which is also a non-stop flight. Virgin Atlantic fly from Heathrow to Antigua and the onward flight is with inter-Caribbean Airways to Tortola. Alternatively, BVI Holidays can charter a private aircraft just for you and your party. You will be met when you disembark your transatlantic flight in Antigua, and fast-tracked through immigration and customs and taken to your waiting aircraft.
Flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow can also be arranged to connect with the Gatwick and Heathrow flights on certain days. Flights from regional airports can be arranged through Paris or Amsterdam to St Maarten and onwards to the BVI.
If you would like to have a few nights in New York, Boston or Miami before heading to BVI, this can also be arranged. You can either fly onwards via Puerto Rico which is a 35 minute hop over to the British Virgin Islands or again, a private charter can be arranged. There is a direct flight from Miami to Beef Island, Tortola.
Depending on where you are in the USA, you can fly to Miami or San Juan, Puerto Rico and onwards to the BVI, or another option is to fly to St Thomas and take the ferry to Tortola. BVI Holidays can also arrange a private charter from St Thomas into Anegada, Tortola or Virgin Gorda.
Larger aircraft cannot land in the BVI which is why the islands remain unspoilt, uncrowded and uncommercialised.
