Property Overview

Set on one of Antigua’s 365 beaches, Galley Bay Resort & Spa offers guests a fabulous combination of excellent service, Caribbean cuisine and rustic luxury in a very natural setting. Much of the architecture here is inspired by the French artist Gauguin, and the charming Gaugin Suites have their own plunge pool and are surrounded by lush gardens and views of the lagoon.

Galley Bay Resort and Spa stretches across 40 acres, complete with a bird sanctuary and saltwater lagoon. Tropical gardens stretch down to Galley Beach, which is three-quarters of a mile long. Fort Barrington is just over two miles drive from Galley Bay and is known for its 18th-century hilltop fort and outstanding bay views. St John’s, the capital of Antigua, is less than six miles from the hotel, and V.C. Bird International Airport is around nine miles away.

Accommodation

Galley Bay Resort and Spa offers a wide range of accommodation. Choose from 3 different types of Beachfront rooms and suites, some with double showers, bathtub, and all with stunning views of the ocean The Gaugin Suites which are a tribute to Paul Gaugin, the artist. have their own plunge pool and a lovely courtyard setting with sun loungers. There is even a mini kitchen.

Apart from the Gaugin Suites, the rooms at Galley Bay are right on the beach. All rooms have balcony or terrace, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, TV, telephone, complimentary Wi-Fi, coffee maker, safe, bathrobes and hairdryer. Rooms are large and are well appointed with spacious bathrooms. Rooms sleep maximum 2 adults. 

Galley Bay includes all meals, snacks and drinks by the glass (name-brand spirits, sparkling wine by the glass, Caribbean beers, tropical coolers and soft drinks, excludes bottled water). Restaurants open on rotation.

Activities

At Galley Bay Resort and Spa you can be as active or as lazy as you please. On the water you can choose from Sunfish or Hobie Cat sailing, kayaking, snorkelling and stand-up paddleboarding. Galley Bay has a beautiful pool too.

On the land there is a multitude of activities to keep you occupied. Choose from tennis, croquet, beach volleyball, yoga. You can work out in the fitness centre or have a leisurely game of billiards. Galley Bay holds movie nights on the beach and their talented chefs not only give cooking demonstrations, but will teach you to cook your favourite dish, which you can then sample.

Galley Bay Resort and Spa has a well-stocked boutique and jewellery store where you can shop for these special gifts or treat yourself.

If you wish, you can venture a bit further afield and experience some of Antigua’s amazing attractions. You can visit Nelson’s Dockyard, Betty’s Hope, Devil’s Bridge, Shirley Heights to name only a few.

Of course….you can simply relax with a good book on the stunning white sand beach that fronts Galley Bay Resort and Spa.

Dining

Galley Bay Resort and Spa offers four excellent restaurants, all beachfront, offering intimate, candlelit dining of excellent quality. Ismay’s Restaurant offers a higher quality dining experience to be shared for that special occasion, whilst the more laid-back Barefoot Grill is a great place to enjoy a tasty quesadilla made with Galley Bay’s own resort grown produce. At sunset, hors d’oeuvres are served at the bar which overlooks the sea from under its Tahitian-style roof and you can then make your way to Sea Grape restaurant with its relaxed beachside setting.

The Gaugin Restaurant at Galley Bay is a magical experience and a nod to the famous artist. The Gaugin Restaurant offers romantic candlelight dining in your own private cabana right next to the ocean. The menu reflects the artist’s love of vibrant colour with brightly coloured vegetables, salads, delicious curries and traditional Antiguan cuisine.

Travelling to the BVI

Travelling from the UK to the British Virgin Islands

The most direct way is from Gatwick to Antigua with British Airways and onwards to Tortola with inter-Caribbean Airways, which is also a non-stop flight. Virgin Atlantic fly from Heathrow to Antigua and the onward flight is with inter-Caribbean Airways to Tortola. Alternatively, BVI Holidays can charter a private aircraft just for you and your party. You will be met when you disembark your transatlantic flight and fast-tracked through immigration and customs and taken to your waiting aircraft.

Travelling from Scotland

Flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow can also be arranged to connect with the Gatwick and Heathrow flights on certain days. Flights from regional airports can be arranged through Paris or Amsterdam to St Maarten and onwards to the BVI.

Travelling from New York, Boston or Miami

If you would like to have a few nights in New York, Boston or Miami before heading to BVI, this can also be arranged. The onward flight is via Puerto Rico which is a 35 minute hop over to the British Virgin Islands or again, a private charter can be arranged.

There are no direct flights to the BVI which is why the islands remain unspoilt, uncrowded and uncommercialised. From the summer of 2023, there will be a flight from Miami direct to Tortola.
