The one bedroom villa at the Big Bamboo has a King size bed and a comfortable queen size sofa bed in the lounge which is perfect for 2 children or teens. The two bedroom villa offers Queen size beds. Each villa has a lounge/diner with kitchen equipped for self-catering. These beachfront villas, which are named after planets – Jupiter, Neptune etc., all have air conditioning, ceiling fans and spacious verandahs where you can enjoy a cocktail at the end of the day and watch the sun sink below the horizon on beautiful Anegada.

Ironing and cooking services are also available on request at additional charge.

Bone fishing on Anegada is excellent and there are several local guides who offer trips around the flats and are keen to share their knowledge and expertise with their guests. The staff at the Big Bamboo will be happy to assist in arranging this for you.

Snorkelling right off Loblolly Beach at the Big Bamboo is second to none and equipment is available to rent from the shop.

Kiteboarding, kayaking and stand-up paddle-boarding are all available on Anegada and you can rent a scooter or a jeep as a fun way of getting around the island. If you prefer to take a taxi, this can easily be arranged for you.

A visit to Conch Mountain at the southern end of Anegada is interesting where the fishermen clean out the Conch shells and also the flamingo pond but, be sure to take your binoculars as the pink flamingos are some way off!

Little pottery shops and gift shops are scattered throughout Anegada and a lot of products are made on the island by local residents.

Visits to other beaches on Anegada are a must – the beaches are beautiful and appear untouched. Flash of Beauty, Cow Wreck, Keel Point, Pomato Point to name but a few – all stunning BVI beaches.

The Big Bamboo Cottages have a restaurant right next door – less than 2 minutes’ walk! It’s called the Big Bamboo Restaurant and Beach Bar. It’s a fun place to eat offering a good selection of food and of course the famous Anegada Lobster is the most popular dish on the menu. The Big Bamboo Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course, you will want to venture out and about to try different restaurants and you are spoiled for choice – the Anegada Beach Club has an excellent restaurant, Cow Wreck Beach Bar and Restaurant serve a great lunch or dinner in a stunning location, also the Wonky Dog restaurant, Anegada Reef Hotel and Potters Bar at Setting Point, Anegada to name but a few.

The Big Bamboo has a large gift shop offering a selection of clothes, jewellery and other items.

Complimentary wi-fi is provided for guests.

The Beach Bar staff at the Big Bamboo make excellent cocktails and whlle you are enjoying, you can find a piece of driftwood and, using the magnifying glass provided, you can burn your name onto it and the bar tender will nail it to the bar. You will be forever remembered at the Big Bamboo!

Travelling to the BVI

Travelling from the UK to the British Virgin Islands

The most direct way is from Gatwick to Antigua with British Airways and onwards to Tortola with inter-Caribbean Airways, which is also a non-stop flight. Virgin Atlantic fly from Heathrow to Antigua and the onward flight is with inter-Caribbean Airways to Tortola. Alternatively, BVI Holidays can charter a private aircraft just for you and your party. You will be met when you disembark your transatlantic flight and fast-tracked through immigration and customs and taken to your waiting aircraft.

Travelling from Scotland

Flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow can also be arranged to connect with the Gatwick and Heathrow flights on certain days. Flights from regional airports can be arranged through Paris or Amsterdam to St Maarten and onwards to the BVI.

Travelling from New York, Boston or Miami

If you would like to have a few nights in New York, Boston or Miami before heading to BVI, this can also be arranged. The onward flight is via Puerto Rico which is a 35 minute hop over to the British Virgin Islands or again, a private charter can be arranged.

There are no direct flights to the BVI which is why the islands remain unspoilt, uncrowded and uncommercialised. From the summer of 2023, there will be a flight from Miami direct to Tortola.
