Warm Water – Hot Racing!

BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival 2014 is being held March 31 to April 6. Back by popular request, the one-design race area will be part of the 2014 regatta. For years the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival has had three separate race areas.

It has been a signature of the Spring Regatta to give the classes more selection and the race officers more options. Having a race area specifically for one-design boats has worked to great advantage. The one-design was started for the IC24’s, (converted J24) and now will include the fast growing J-70 fleet.

‘With the one-design area, the Race Committee can set courses that allow these boats to have

up to five races a day. The course they can set on the fly with existing wind conditions is fantastic. The sailors can maximize their time on the water and get plenty of tight racing among the one-design boats,’ says Robert Phillips, Race Committee Chairman.

Each year the Committee has innovative designs, techniques, and ideas that up the game for all the sailors. The past two years the Committee has used a set chart of the race area (For more information : click here) and surrounding water. Using numbered marks, islands, and nautical markers, the Committee can create various races for each class. Checking wind, water and time limits, they can run windward-leeward courses – round islands and marks – to mix up the three days of racing. Another unique feature of the British Virgin Islands is its three bodies of water on which to race: The Atlantic Ocean, the Sir Francis Drake Channel, and the Caribbean Sea.

The BVI Spring Regatta slogan of Warm Water~Hot Racing, also includes Something for Everyone. Now reintroducing the one-design area, that is even more true.

Fabulous Time at Cocos Antigua

Thanks in no small measure to you Joyce, we had a really super time. We would go back to Cocos quick as a flash given half an opportunity !

Our cottage was great – and we know it is the premier one (Number 5) in the complex. In fact it is the one mainly featured on their web site and was the envy of the people we partied up with. We guess that this was a major up-grade triggered by you. The rooms were well refreshed on a daily basis – including the well stocked bar, sorry, I meant fridge, and our own private plunge pool was well maintained. Our partially covered wide verandah facilitated a beautiful 270 degree uninterrupted view of the sea and beach – the sunsets were amazing.

We cannot speak too highly of the staff – every single one of them were consistently happy, smiling & friendly and couldn’t do enough for us (or for everyone else for that matter).

Food may not have been best-in-the-world but most certainly it was the top side of good and there was plenty of it. The staff friendliness and attitude together with the menu variety on offer more than made up for any fussy cuisine shortfalls!

‘Beverage’ was never a prob whether in quantity, variety, or ‘ambience’ with regard to where one wished to consume it – restaurant, bar, beach bar, room/terrace, wherever you wanted it.

We had a really lovely time and many thanks for it to you once again.

Finally, please keep the place secret!

Kindest regards and best wishes

Jan & Alan H

BVI National Parks

Explore the wonders of the British Virgin Islands’ National Parks.

Rich in natural and cultural history, the British Virgin Islands boast some of the world’s most fascinating sights.

There are 21 National Parks, which encompass a stunning array of land and marine areas including historic sites, tropical forests, bird sanctuaries and one of the world’s most famous shipwrecks, each a jewel in its own right.  Whether accessed by boat, jeep or on foot, the Virgin Island National Park sites can be the highlight of your holiday.

Established in 1961, the BVI National Parks Trust is responsible for safeguarding the territory’s natural assets, as well as the territory’s first national park at Sage Mountain on Tortola.

The BVI is little known for its’ National Parks – why don’t you come, visit and explore?  Call us today!

Thank you from Jo, Philippa and Liam

Dear Joyce,

Thank you so much for the fantastic holiday that you arranged for us. The two resorts that you suggested to us showed a fantastic understanding of what we wanted from our beautiful holiday in the BVI. Your knowledge of the BVI is second to none, your reliability is so very reassuring and your attention to detail is the icing on the cake! I would absolutely recommend you to anyone wishing to book a holiday – they won’t find better! Thank you so much.”

Warmest wishes, Jo Cowler

Thank you from the Spanjaard Family

Hi Joyce,
Happy New Year to you too…hope you had as wonderful Christmas as we did!
Our time in the BVI was absolutely amazing.  You helped in making it a holiday of a lifetime!
The flights went smoothly, they were all on time, the jeep was waiting and it got better and better.
Gino was also very helpful. The house was nice and clean and got cleaned thoroughly everyday (including Christmas Day!).

Coco Maya was so good we went back again.

The snorkeling and scuba diving were brilliant.
Many folk have asked us how we found out about you so we have let them know.

Many thanks again

The BVI – A Truly Unspoilt Paradise

Another year is drawing to a close and we are about to welcome in 2014.

As the years march on (scarily rapidly!) a number of Caribbean islands sadly succumb to commercialism and mass tourism with high rise hotels springing up all over the place.

Thankfully, this is not the case in the still unspoilt, uncrowded and uncommercialised British Virgin Islands, which comprise around 60 small islands – the majority of which are uninhabited and offer white sand beaches, bowing palm trees and beckoning hammocks.

The diving and snorkelling are excellent because the reefs are protected and well preserved.

If you are wondering what to do for your holiday this year – look no further – a true paradise awaits!

Princess Beatrice and The Fat Virgin

Our very own Princess Beatrice was recently spotted enjoying the ambience at The Fat Virgin cafe which is part of beautiful Biras Creek Hotel on the island of Virgin Gorda.  Boris Becker and Martina Navratilova were among a group of celebrity tennis players who recently stayed at Biras Creek.  They enjoyed the privacy of the resort, the newly refurbished suites, excellent food and the beauty of the 3 bodies of water that surround Biras Creek Hotel… can you!

Great Barrier Reef v BVI

I have just returned from a truly amazing trip to Australia.  During the 3 weeks, my husband and I visited four states – New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia – commonly known as W.A.

You are probably wondering why I am sharing this with you when my passion and my heart clearly lie with the beautiful British Virgin Islands.

One day we took a boat trip from Cairns out to the Great Barrier Reef some 60km offshore.  My husband was expecting some spectacular snorkelling and yes – the snorkelling was indeed spectacular but….he said “it did not even begin to compare to the snorkelling in the BVI”….which is truly amazing.

If you are a diver or avid snorkeller and you find this hard to believe, please don’t take my word for it.  Call BVI Holidays today and book a trip to the beautiful British Virgin Islands – there is a myriad of marine life below the waves and….it is less than half the distance to that vast continent – Australia!

Oil Nut Bay

I am so proud to announce that BVI Holidays is now working with and promoting the luxurious and exclusive Oil Nut Bay on Virgin Gorda.  This is the newest property to have recently opened its doors and embraced the beauty of the British Virgin Islands. The accommodation is stunning and the views spectacular from every aspect.  I am very excited about this and felt compelled to share this latest news with you.  Oil Nut Bay and BVI Holidays have a great offer for you, so you can experience this newest Jewel in the BVI crown. Have a look then call to book!

Another Wonderful BVI Experience

We returned from the BVI yesterday. We had a fabulous time. It was every bit as good as I remembered despite having changed significantly. I couldn’t believe the development at Sage Mountain – that was just a dirt track and nothing else there when I last visited! Jim Cullimore who runs the Mountain View restaurant was very welcoming and cooked a wonderful meal for us on Tuesday.

Jon, Katy and Evelyn were great, and Limeberry House fantastic. We’ll certainly go there again – hopefully less than 20 years from now! Jon invited us to Little Thatch for the day and we spent a great day there on Monday. They were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. What a paradise!

Horizon Yacht Charters were really good. Very well organised and the duty manager Jon was superb. Certainly by far the best charter experience I’ve encountered both from the sailing and the charter company – and I’ve chartered in many places overseas and at home.

The outbound lounge at Antigua on the way home was a very good idea and well worth the extra cost.

Many thanks again for your help organising everything. We will certainly use your services again – not too far in the future we hope!

Kind regards,

Phil Vibrans
