In the early hours of 22nd August 2011 a fire ripped through the Great House on Necker Island causing substantial damage.
Sir Richard Branson, his wife Joan and members of his family, including his 90 years old Mum were on island when it happened. It was caused by a lightening strike during a tropical storm. It is extremely sad but the good news is that everyone is safe and nobody has been hurt.
Sir Richard said "It's very much the Dunkirk spirit here, and we will rebuild the house as soon as we can".
